The young army captain who led the latest coup in Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore will on Friday be inaugurated as interim president, according to a statement made public by the constitutional council. 

The 34-year-old Captain Ibrahim Traore, was the one that led the disgruntled junior officers last month in the second coup in eight months to hit the jihadist-torn west African country.

No fewer than 27 people were killed by suspected jihadists in attacks on villages in northern Burkina Faso at the weekend, authorities have confirmed.

A security official provided an estimate death toll, stating that ‘approximately 15’ individuals, some of them were children, were slain late Sunday near Bourasso in the Kossi province.

A local resident estimated there were 20 or so fatalities.

‘Armed men moved around the village at around 5:00 pm, firing in the air. They came back at night and blindly opened fire on people,’ the source said.
