The Abia state government has insisted that the State government would withdraw certificate of Occupancy of any landlord who allows his or her front-porch to be used for trading activities.

Ogun State Seals Off 2 Buildings, Marks 526 For Demolition

The Ogun government on Saturday sealed off two dilapidated buildings in Abeokuta and ordered occupants of the houses to move out within 24 hours.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, Mr. Nafiu Adebiyi, told newsmen during an inspection tour that 526 other houses built on waterways, canal and erosion channels had been marked for demolition across the state.

Adebiyi said at the scene that the order became necessary to prevent loss of lives and other possible disasters that could arise from the partially collapsed buildings.

Tanker Explosion Destroys Six Buildings, Shops In Onitsha

Not fewer than six buildings and shops were burnt on Wednesday at Upper Iweka, on Onitsha/Awka Road in Onitsha, after a 33,000 litre Diesel tanker fell and caught fire.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra Command, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.

He stated that the incident occurred at about 12:44 p.m.

Kumapayi said that the Fire Service Officials got to the scene of the fire promptly but could not put out the fire as their water pump developed a fault.

Lagos demolishes 13 buildings

Five more structurally defective Lagos Island buildings were yesterday brought down by the Lagos State Government.

This brings the number of demolished buildings to 13 since Friday when the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) started the exercise to prevent another disaster after Wednesday’s incident on Massey Street, Ita-Faji, Lagos Island. Twenty people were killed; forty-five others were injured when the four-storey building collapsed. Most of the dead were children.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Prince Rotimi Ogunleye described the exercise as a holistic response to the challenges posed by derelict structures and unapproved schools.
