Four Confirmed Dead Following Building Collapse In Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) yesterday confirmed that four persons died while one was rescued in the building collapse at Oye Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, in Mushin, Lagos.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye who is the NEMA South West Zonal Coordinator made this known to reporters in an interview on Saturday.

He said two males and two females died, while one person was rescued in the building collapse.

Earlier, the Lagos State Government also said it would investigate the cause of the building collapse.

Gbolahan Oki, general manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), has revealed that the owner of the collapsed 21-storey building in Ikoyi, was given approval to construct only 15 floors.

Oki told newsmen on Monday that the owner of the property has been arrested by security agents and would face the law because people have died in the disaster.

‘He got an approval for a 15-storey building and he exceeded his limit. I am on ground here and the materials he used are so inferior and terrible.’
