Bolsonaro’s Gov’t Threatening Democracy In Brazil – Jurists
A group of lawyers and legal experts have sent in a petition to the United Nations, saying that Brazil’s democracy and the independence of its judiciary are under threat from the government of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Africa Daily News, New York reports that this came even as the country prepares for elections in October.
The group of 80 jurists and legal researchers on Wednesday appealed to the UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, Diego Garcia-Sayan, to visit Brazil and report on attacks on the Supreme Court and the Superior Electoral Court that oversees elections.
