French Author, Ernaux Wins Nobel Prize For Literature

French writer, Annie Ernaux, has been announced the winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, for what the Nobel committee chair submitted was an ‘uncompromising’ 50-year body of work exploring ‘a life marked by great disparities regarding gender, language, and class.’

Africa Daily News, New York reports that the prestigious honour is awarded by the Swedish Academy and is worth 10 million Swedish kronor (£807,000). Prof. Carl-Henrik Heldin, chair of the committee, said the 82-year-old’s work was ‘admirable and enduring.’

TCN Tells NERC To Reset Discos’ Books Over ₦270bn debt

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has asked the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission to reset the books of power distribution companies in order to help clear the N270bn debt which the Discos owe the TCN.

The TCN also declared on Friday in Abuja that it now had the capacity to offset the $1.6bn loans it received from various multilateral donors.

Managing Director of the company, Usman Mohammed, disclosed these at a TCN and donor stakeholders’ meeting.

He said, “We ask that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission should agree to reset the books of the Discos. They (Discos) owe the TCN N270bn. …
