Nigerians smoke over 20 billion sticks of cigarettes yearly

Over 1.1 billion adult smoke tobacco worldwide and at least 367 million persons use smokeless tobacco products. Of this number, eight million die annually through the effect of tobacco of which over six million are by direct use and about 890,000 by exposure to second-hand smoke.

Over 20 billion sticks of cigarettes are consumed annually in Nigeria even as 15.4% of school children ages 13 – 15 years currently use tobacco in the country.

More than $1 billion over 10 years. That’s how much money Donald Trump’s businesses lost from 1985 to 1994, according to The New York Times.

The newspaper learned the details about a decade’s worth of Trump’s tax records, which indicate that he lost more money than nearly any other individual US taxpayer during that time period.

EFCC begins probe of ₦8.7 billion fraud in JAMB

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched into a probe of the cash inflow and outflow of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) between 2010 and 2016.

The anti-graft agency wants to get to the root of an alleged N8.7billion fraud in the board.

Fifteen suspects have already been shortlisted for trial.

Among them are some zonal heads and state coordinators. One of the suspects facing trial is a female accountant, Philomena Chise, whose sensational claim that  a snake swallowed N36million raked in from the sales of e-facility cards rocked the nation.

EFCC reveals Air Force ex-chief, who siphoned ₦12 billion

An investigator with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Tosin Owobo, yesterday told a Federal High Court, Lagos how a former Chief of Accounts in the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Jacob Bola Adigun (rtd), used his companies to siphon N12 billion from the force’s intelligence account domiciled with a new generation bank.

Adigun is the second defendant in a N22.8 billion fraud charge preferred against erstwhile Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu (rtd).
