The governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has debunked claims by Shangev-Tiev Assembly that over 70 persons were killed in Konshisha Local Government Area of the state by the military.

Ortom also revealed that three of the weapons which were seized from the military by armed militia in Konshisha have been recovered.

Benue State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Akpen Leva has lamented that the country now organises more burials than celebration.

Leva stated this on Sunday when he led Christians in the state to match round the premises of NKST, Lortyer in Makurdi, the state capital to protest incessant killings of Christians in the country.

Ortom Appoints Ben Agande GM Benue Publishing Company

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has approved the appointment of Ben Agande as General Manager, Benue Printing and Publishing Corporation, BPPC, publishers of The Voice Newspaper.

A statement issued by Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary, Tever Akase said the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Anthony Ijohor had already issued a letter of appointment to the new BPPC General Manager, which takes effect from January 27, 2020.

Agande takes over from Philip Anza who has been redeployed as Principal Special Assistant to the Governor on Commercial Enterprises.

The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has narrated how he narrowly escaped death after suspected herdsmen shot at him in his farm.

The Benue State Executive Council on Monday approved the conversion of Akawe Torkula College of Advanced and Professional Studies, ATCAPS, Makurdi to Akawe Torkula Polytechnic, ATP, Makurdi.

The Council made this known in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, James Agbo.

It also approved the conversion of Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture, Yandev, AOCAY, to Akperan Orshi Polytechnic, Yandev, AOPY, Yandev.

ICRC Donates Food Items To IDPs In Benue

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has donated food items to over 80,000 internally displaced persons in Guma and Makurdi local government areas of Benue State.

Also, the Committee is carrying out a livestock deworming campaign which has reached over 100,000 cattle and other small ruminants belonging to pastoralist communities affected by violence in Nasarawa state.

The assistance, according to Majid Bakhtiary,  Head of the ICRC sub-delegation in Jos, were provided to alleviate the suffering of people in the affected areas.

Police In Benue Discover 3 Family Members Dead In A Room

The Benue Police Command on Friday confirmed the discovery of three corpses belonging to one family in their room situated in North-Bank area of Makurdi metropolis.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the bizarre happening to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi, said investigations were ongoing to unravel the cause of death.

The PPRO also disclosed that a little girl was found in the room where the dead bodies were discovered completely unhurt but too small to give useful information.
