Falana To Malami: You Risk Being Removed As AGF

Femi Falana, senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), says Abubakar Malami risks being removed as the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) if he fails to secure the release of Omoyele Sowore.

Last Friday, Malami took over Sowore’s case from the Department of State Services (DSS), and with this development, Falana, counsel to the activist, asked him to use his office to secure Sowore’s release.

The AGF, however, said he cannot take any decision on Sowore’s release.

Responding in a statement on Tuesday, Falana said the AGF has not taken note of the legal implications of taking over the case.

Iraq Protests: PM Sees Power Being Clipped By Rivals

As anti-government protests sweep his country, Iraq’s embattled premier has found his decision-making powers clipped by rivals and his entourage subject to increasing pressure from Iran, Iraqi officials told AFP.
Adel Abdel Mahdi, 77, came to power last year as the product of a tenuous alliance between populist cleric Moqtada Sadr and pro-Iran paramilitary chief Hadi al-Ameri, with the required blessing of Iraq’s Shiite religious leadership.

He was seen as an almost professorial figure who could tackle unemployment and government graft as Iraq’s first prime minister since the defeat of the Islamic State group.

Tunde Baiyewu: Being a Lighthouse Family

Growing up in an era where cigarette adverts were permitted to air on television and radio, it was a tad difficult to miss those deceptive cuts that told us it was a mark of pristine masculinity to puff on neatly wrapped nicotine.

It was also one of those ads – St. Moritz’s – that introduced me to the music of Lighthouse Family. Ocean Drive’s simple yet inspiring lyrics contradict the reality cigarettes represent, but the minds behind it found it beautiful enough – maybe it’s Tunde Baiyewu’s voice – to rest the soul of the commercial on. Such was the …
