Footballer Drowns While Rescuing Victims Of Boat Mishap

Mr. Ernest Peremobowei who is a 31-year-old grassroots footballer from Bayelsa State has passed while reportedly trying to rescue victims of a boat mishap in the raging flood of Bebelebiri Community, in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, Africa Daily News, New York has learnt. 

It was gathered that the corpse of the deceased was, however not recovered until after two days while some of his body parts were allegedly eaten up by animals in the river.

The Bayelsa Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Mike Ogiasa by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

Ogiasa who is a former cabinet member in the administration of former Bayelsa governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson reportedly kidnapped from his community, Otuabagi in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Saturday.

Supreme Court Rules In Suit Against Diri As Bayelsa Gov

Douye Diri has been affirmed as the duly elected Governor of Bayelsa State, by a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

The apex court, in a unanimous judgement by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, dismissed the six appeals filed against Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

Justice Ngwuta, in his judgement, predicated the dismissal of the appeals on the withdrawal of the six appeals by lawyers of the appellants.

Bayelsa Community Youths Threaten AGIP Oil Over Contract

The people of Okoroma Clan in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have issued a 14 days ultimatum to a multinational oil company, Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), to refrain from awarding contracts belonging to them to others in the state or consider shutting down their activities in the area.

The clan issued the ultimatum on the 16th April 2020 through a socio-political group, Okoroma Volunteers.

The people of the area also demanded that the company renew the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with them in 2006 that had since expired in 2011.
