Bandits and other acts of banditry would be having it tough in Zamfara State now as anyone who is found guilty of banditry and other related offences in Zamfara will henceforth be facing death sentence, according to a new law which came into effect in the state on Tuesday.

The Zamafra State Governor, Bello Matawalle had also signed the bill titled Prohibition and Punishment for Banditry, Cattle Rustling, Cultism, Kidnapping and Other Incidental Offences, 2022 passed by the state legislature into law on Tuesday.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, has explained that security agencies were actually the ones that requested the shutdown of telecommunication services in Zamfara to curtail banditry.

Hundreds of youths in Katsina State, on Tuesday staged peaceful protest over the increasing banditry, killings and kidnappings.

In the times past when the kidnapping scourge was at it’s peak in the Southeast and South South geopolitical zones of Nigeria, the two zones were mocked by the rest of the country and the Igbos especially were accused of turning everything including kidnapping to money making venture.
Now the menace is a thing of the past in both zones, and it has become a lucrative and budding business in the unlikeliest of places: the Northern part of the country and
Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and Abuja have become the hotbeds.
