Austria’s public broadcaster ORF said it will not block Palestinian flags in the audience or mute crowd reactions during Israel’s performance at the next Eurovision Song Contest, setting a different tone from recent editions that drew criticism over crowd control.

The announcement comes ahead of the 70th Eurovision final in May, which Austria will host after winning the 2024 contest. Austrian Villages Cut Off By Landslides Following Heavy Rains

According to the Red Cross, rescue personnel were attempting to reach three settlements in western Austria on Wednesday after landslides caused by heavy rains blocked access.

According to a spokesman for the Red Cross in the bordering state of Carinthia, Melanie Reiter, thunderstorms on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday caused streams in the hilly Villach-Land district to burst their banks, resulting in mud and debris landslides.

‘Three villages have been completely cut off… The army and firefighters are trying to clear the streets’ to be able to access the villages, she told reporters.

Austria’s Foreign Ministry Says Facing Serious Cyber Attack

Austria’s foreign ministry is facing a “serious cyber attack”, it said late Saturday, warning another country could be responsible.

“Due to the gravity and nature of the attack, it cannot be excluded that it is a targeted attack by a state actor,” it said in a statement with the interior ministry shortly before 11.00 pm (2200 GMT), adding that the attack was ongoing.

“In the past, other European countries have been the target of similar attacks,” it continued.

Season Over For Austria’s Reichelt, Career At Risk

Veteran alpine skier Hannes Reichelt has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a serious right knee injury in the World Cup downhill in Bormio, the Austrian ski federation confirmed on Sunday.

“The season is over prematurely for Reichelt,” the Austrian team said in a statement.

The 39-year-old former super-G world champion’s career now looks over as it was confirmed he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and damage to the outer capsular ligament.
