Bandits attack: 2,277 people displaced in Niger

Three Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps are currently set up by the villagers displaced in the armed bandit attacks in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.

The Nation learnt that over 2,277 people were displaced in eight communities in Shiroro local government area.

The Nation also learnt that one of the pregnant women currently displaced gave birth to a baby last night in the IDP camp; the mother and the baby are doing fine while efforts are being made by fellow campers to get the necessary things needed by the mother and child.

Yemen rebel attack injures 26 at Saudi airport

A Yemeni rebel missile attack on an airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia wounded 26 civilians on Wednesday, the Saudi-led coalition fighting the rebels said.

Yemen’s Huthi rebels, who have faced persistent coalition bombing since March 2015 that has exacted a heavy civilian death toll, have stepped up missile and drone attacks across the border in recent weeks.

Eight of those wounded at Abha airport were admitted to hospital, coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki said.

Sri Lanka’s parliament Tuesday defied President Maithripala Sirisena and resumed an investigation into security lapses surrounding the Easter suicide bombings that killed 258 people, officials said.

The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) began hearing testimony from Muslim leaders who claimed they repeatedly alerted the authorities to dangerous radicalisation, a parliamentary official said.

President Sirisena last week asked his coalition cabinet to halt the hearings, which have already revealed senior police and security officials directly under him had ignored repeated intelligence warnings.

Thugs Attack Dankwambo’s convoy, burn 2 cars, Radio Station

Thugs have attacked the convoy of the  Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo, and set two cars among the entourage ablaze.

The Director of Media of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in the state, Mr. Dahiru Kera, confirmed this to journalists yesterday.
