Traffic Gridlock: Assembly Tasks Sanwo-Olu On Maintenance

The Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, raised serious concern about the current traffic gridlock experienced by Lagosians, following the ongoing maintenance of roads in the state.

The House commended the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for being proactive in road maintenance, but urged the governor to direct the Public Works Corporation to embark on scheduled maintenance of the roads on weekdays, as well as on weekends instead of doing that during peak periods.

Osinbajo Inaugurates Wagon Assembly Plant In Ogun

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday inaugurated the Wagon Assembly Plant at Kajola in Ifo council area of Ogun as part of efforts to boost the ongoing railway modernisation programme of the federal government.
Osinbajo in his address said the development followed an agreement signed in March 2018 by the federal government with the Chinese rail contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), for the establishment of the wagon assembly plant.

According to the VP, the plant will subsequently produce rolling stock, wagon, spare parts and maintenance equipment needed for the various railway projects of the federal government across the country.

The UN General Assembly condemned the nearly 60-year-old US embargo on Cuba Thursday for the 28th year in a row, calling for an end to it by a vote of 187 to three.
Only Israel and Brazil voted with the US against the resolution. Two other US allies — Ukraine and Colombia — abstained.

First imposed on October 19, 1960, in response to Havana’s nationalization of US-owned oil refineries, and extended in 1962, the embargo is an enduring legacy of the Cold War hostilities between the two countries.

The Yobe House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed receipt of 20 nominees submitted by Gov. Mai Mala Buni for screening and confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council.

The Assembly, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Mohammed Bello, said the list was contained in a letter signed by Baba Mallam Wali, the acting Secretary to the State Government, addressed to the Speaker.

In a unanimous resolution, Ekiti House of Assembly, yesterday passed a vote-of-confidence in Governor Kayode Fayemi for his achievements in his 365 days in office.

The commendation came following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Gboyega Aribisogan during plenary in Ado-Ekiti.

Some legal experts yesterday faulted the move by the Senate to take over the Edo State House of Assembly within a week. The Red Chamber’s action will, however, depend on whether Governor Godwin Obaseki complies with another resolution mandating him to issue a fresh proclamation for the ‘proper’ inauguration of the house.

Former Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly Kunle Taiwo Oluomo has been elected the Speaker of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-dominated Ninth Legislative Assembly.

The 26-member legislators at their maiden sitting presided over by Oluomo has also passed four motions, including two which empowered the Assembly to “move with utmost severity against anybody”, who gives “false  evidence” on any matter being investigated by it.
