PDP Wins Kaduna Assembly Seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Mrs. Comfort Amwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the rerun election for Sanga constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

NAN reports that the Returning Officer, Salihu Kargi of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria announced the results in Gwantu on Sunday.

He said Amwe polled 19,815 votes to defeat Haliru Gambo-Dangana of the APC who scored 19,688 votes.
The rerun election was conducted in 14 polling units in the local government.

Defection Looms As Imo Assembly Resumes Today

The lawmakers at the Imo State House of Assembly will on Tuesday (today) resume from their one month Christmas and New Year break.

The lawmakers had, on December 24, adjourned till January 21 after passing into law the 2020 budget estimate presented by Emeka Ihedioha, who has now been sacked by the Supreme Court as the governor of the state.

As the lawmakers resume today, there are strong indications that majority of the lawmakers will defect to the All Progressives Congress.

Anambra State House of Assembly has renewed tenured the tenure of 18 out of the 21 Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen in the state and their members for additional three months.

The renewal is coming for the umpteenth time since the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano took over the reins of power in 2014.

Despite agitations for the conduct of a local government election in the state, the state government has continued to run the affairs of the local government areas using transition committee chairmen who are appointed by the governor from his party; All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Buhari, Natl Assembly Dragged To Court Over $29.96bn Loan

The fresh $29.96 billion foreign loans being sought by President Muhammadu Buhari government has drawn the fury of a human right lawyer, Barrister Kanmi Ajibola.

Ajibola on Monday instituted a legal action seeking the mandate of the court to stop the National Assembly from approving the loan.

The Senate had recently referred President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2016 – 2018 External Borrowing Plan request to its Committee on Local and Foreign Debts.

Edo Assembly Calls For Removal Of Esan West LG Chairman

The Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, suggested the removal of Mr Patrick Aguinede, the suspended chairman of Esan West Local Government Council, over alleged unremitted Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The request followed the consideration of the report of the panel of enquiry constituted by Gov. Godwin Obaseki to investigate allegations of fraud leveled against the chairman.

The report of the panel of inquiry was on Monday forwarded to the house by the governor.

Rivers Assembly Calls For Establishment Of Amphibious Raid

Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Transport has called for the establishment of an amphibious operation sting joint command to provide surveillance and check criminal activities on the waterways.
