Confusion As UN Peacekeepers Open Fire In DR Congo

A yet-to-be-identified number of people have been killed and several others were injured after United Nations peacekeepers opened fire at a border post in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the UN has revealed.

A video of the incident which was obtained by Africa Daily News, New York shared on social media, showed men – at least one in police uniform and another in army uniform – advancing towards the immobilised UN convoy behind a closed barrier in Kasindi.

The town is in eastern DRC’s Beni territory on the border with Uganda.

Senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang has appealed to the Federal Government to use the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day to review the welfare of serving officers and men as well as retirees, “including dead benefits and wellbeing of surviving families”.

Armed Men Attack, Matchet Policemen On Duty

Suspected armed men have attacked, matcheted and injured some Policemen and carted away their arms in Asaba, the Capital of Delta State, Nigeria.

The Policemen were said to be on “Routine stop and search duty” when the incident occurred on Friday, January 10, THISDAY can report.

The armed men who had laid an ambush in the area inflicted serious injuries on the Policemen before carting away their rifles.

Suspected armed robbers, at about 10 a.m. on Christmas eve shot dead a yet-to-be-identified man in Polokor Market, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The suspected armed robbers who did not pick a pin from the deceased, also shot sporadically in the air to scare people.
