Breaking: Appeal Court reverses conviction of Army General

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has set aside the conviction of a former Chief of Transformation and Innovation at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Major General Ibrahim Sani, by a Special Military Court Martial.

The appellate court, in a unanimous judgment of a three-man panel, led by Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya, voided the proceedings leading to the conviction and sentence.

The Court of Appeal was of the view that Major General was denied fair hearing in the trial process.

Communication minister vows to appeal judgment against APC

The Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu, has vowed to appeal against the high court judgment which struck out the suit he filed against the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Minister had dragged the party to court for barring him from participating in the governorship primary due to his non-participation in the mandatory one-year national service of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) after he graduated from the university.

The Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Friday, struck out the suit for filing it after the expiration of the 14 days stipulated by the law.

The Akure Division of the Court of Appeal Saturday affirmed the qualification and eligibility of Osun State’s governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, to seek election as governor.

Presided over by Justice M.A Danjuma, the court dismissed the appeal against the judgment of an Osun State High Court sitting in Oshogbo which had confirmed the eligibility of Adeleke to contest for the governorship of Osun State.

Court dismisses Jonathan’s appeal on $8.4m forfeiture order

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by Former First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan to upturn the 8.4 million U.S. dollars interim order of forfeiture made against her.

Justice Ejembi Eko, in a unanimous ruling held that it was incumbent on the appellant to prove before the trial court while the order should not be made permanent.
