Bayelsa NASS Seats: APC Floors PDP At Appeal Court

The hope of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to regain the Nembe/ Brass Federal Constituency seat and the Bayelsa East Senatorial District seat has been dashed as the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed the ruling of the Bayelsa Elections Petitions Tribunal which upheld the victory of Hon Israel Sunny-Goli for Nembe/Brass Federal Constituency and Senator Degi-Eremienyo for Bayelsa East.

The Court of Appeal in a unanimous ruling read by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim dismissed the appeal filed by Mrs Maria Ebikake against Hon Sunny-Goli and Hon Blessing Izagara- Ipigansi against Senator Degi- Eremienyo.

The Court of Appeal in Sokoto has upheld the election of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko,  represeting Sokoto North Senatorial District.

The appellate court dismissed the appeal brought before it by Senator Ahmed Mohammed Maccido of the People’s Democratic Party  (PDP).

Maccido had filed an appeal before the court, challenging the judgement of the National and States Assemblies Elections Petitions Tribunal which sat in Sokoto, that dismissed his petition filed before it, for being Statute barred, as it was filed out of time.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna, yesterday, reserved judgment for November  7, on the appeal filled by Alhaji Isah Ashiru, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the March 9  election.

Ashiru and the PDP had approached the Appeal Court to challenge the verdict of the Kaduna State Governorship Tribunal that upheld the return of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as duly elected by majority and lawful votes.

The Justice Ibrahim Bako-led Tribunal had dismissed the petition of the PDP and its candidate for lacking in merit.

Supreme Court Strikes Out Ex- CJN Onnoghen’s Appeal

The Supreme Court on Monday struck out a referral appeal praying the court to determine the constitutionality or otherwise of the removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The referral appeal filed by Dr Samuel Nwawka was struck out by Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour, who led five justices after the appellant failed to appear and was not legally represented.
Nwawka had approached the Apex Court to invoke section 22 of the Supreme Court Act to determine Constitutional questions relating to the ways and manners the Federal Government caused the removal of Onnoghen’s as CJN through an ex-parte

Few days after Justice Abdul Dogo of the Federal High Court, Akure, Ondo State, regained his freedom from Kidnappers, suspected gunmen yesterday in Benin City, abducted Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme of the Court of Appeal, Benin Division.

The gunmen also killed her police orderly before taking her away to an unknown destination.

The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear the appeal of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, against the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that  affirmed the election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The hearing would be coming nearly 50 days after the tribunal’s verdict which affirmed the return of Buhari for a second term in office and nearly 40 days after Atiku and the PDP filed their appeal seeking to nullify the judgment and be declared lawful winners of the presidential poll.

La Liga confirmed on Thursday it will appeal the decision to play Saturday’s postponed Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid on December 18.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has faulted the ex-parte order issued by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on which President Buhari acted in suspending former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.
