Appeal Court Verdict: Okowa Lauds Judiciary, Thanks Deltans

Delta Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has commended the Judiciary for the “sound judgment” by the Court of Appeal, which affirmed his victory in the March 9, 2019 Governorship election in the state.

His main opponent in the polls, Chief Great Ogboru of All Progressives Congress (APC), had approached the appellate court to upturn the decision of the Election Petitions Tribunal which dismissed his petition against Okowa’s victory.

The court on Friday in Abuja, endorsed the verdict of the tribunal and dismissed the appeal in its entirety for lacking merit.

 An Appeal Court sitting Port Harcourt, Rivers State as restored Hon David Lyon as the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the November 16 governorship election.

The appellant Court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) not to remove Lyon as the candidate of the party based on an earlier ruling by Justice Jane Inyang of the Federal High Court who nullified the governorship primary election that produce Lyon.

Man City Lose Appeal To CAS Over Financial Fair-Play

Manchester City has lost their appeal against the decision of UEFA to refer the English champions to its adjudicatory chamber over alleged Financial Fair Play violations, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said on Friday.
City reacted angrily when they were referred to the adjudicatory chamber of UEFA’s club financial control body by its investigatory chamber in May.

The club said it would appeal to CAS, but the sports court dismissed their initial appeal, saying on Friday that City had not “exhausted the legal remedies available to it prior to the appeal”.

Just In: Appeal Court Affirms Okowa’s Election

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Friday, dismissed the appeal filed by candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Great Ogboru against the election of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor of Delta State.

A five man panel of the appellate court led by Justice Uzo Ndukwe-Anyanwu, dismissed the appeal on the grounds that it was “completely devoid of merit”.

The court accordingly upheld the decision of the Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which affirmed the declaration of Okowa as lawful winner of the March 9 governorship election in Delta State.

We’ll Appeal Abuja Court Ruling – APC

 All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it has directed its lawyers to appeal the Abuja Federal High Court ruling on the candidacy of the deputy-governor in the forthcoming Bayelsa November 16 election, Senator Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.

The APC said the judgement delivered on Tuesday cannot stand the scrutiny of a superior court.

According to the publicity secretary of Bayelsa APC, Doifie Buokoribo, the court did not consider the weight of evidence before it in delivering the judgement.

Property Owners Storm Lagos Appeal Tribunal

Despite the reprieve promised by the Lagos government to property owners, professional groups and the organised private sector after protests that trailed the land use charge law last year, many residents are yet to enjoy the reductions in the rates.
Investigations by The Guardian last week show that property owners within the state still have to battle with high charges on their properties even as many of them had to approach the assessment appeal tribunal to seek redress from what they called, ‘outrageous financial burden’.

A Court of Appeal Court sitting in Owerri on Thursday upheld the election of Owelle Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as senator representing Imo West Senatorial District.

The Chairman of the panel, Justice R.A. Ada, said that the appeals by Senators Osita Izunaso of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Jones Onyereri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Okorocha lacked merit.

Ada however, reaffirmed the judgement of the State and National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which upheld Okorocha’s election, adding that it was in order.

The court, in a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Olumuyiwa Aburu in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Isah Ashiru, affirmed the judgement of the election petition tribunal, which upheld el-Rufai as winner of the March 9, 2019, governorship election.

The Court of Appeal, sitting in Kaduna wednesday depleted the rank of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate caucus, removing the upper chamber’s spokesman, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, and replaced him with former minority leader, Senator Abiodun Olujimi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC in Ekiti State immediately rejected the verdict, saying it did not reflect the wish of the people. But the PDP hailed it as the restoration of the people’s mandate.
