With the Apapa traffic crisis approaching frightening dimension and fear of port congestion looming, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Hassan Bello did the unusual by cutting short his annual leave to rally stakeholders to find urgent solution to the crisis. FG To Complete Apapa-Oshodi-Ojota Road in 12 Months

Motorists will have to endure additional 12 months of nerve-breaking traffic on the Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonsoki-Ojota highway for the rehabilitation of the road to be completed, according to the federal government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that driving on the highway has been a huge nightmare for motorists since the reconstruction commenced on November 17, 2018.

Similarly, there has been traffic lockdown in the Iganmu area of Lagos over the years. Joint efforts by the Lagos State Government and other agencies to tackle the problem have not yielded lasting solution.

Mile 2 to Tin-Can On Apapa-Oshodi Express Closed For 72Hrs

Contractors handling the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway are set to commence palliative works on the road from the Mile 2 to Tin-Can axis in Lagos State, to fix bad portions and ease traffic on the ever-busy road leading to the nation’s seaport.

Owing to this, the Mile 2 inwards Tin-Can would be closed for 72 hours starting from 12 mid-night yesterday to 12 noon on Monday.

This was one of the fallouts of the meeting held in Lagos by the stakeholders on how to ease traffic on the road.

LASTMA Officer Attacked In Apapa Dies

A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA) official, Ola Oyeshina who was attacked at about 5:00 pm on Friday, 29th November during the course of sanitising Iganmu-Sifax axis of Apapa has died.

The Guardian learnt that the officer was hit with a huge stone which got him severely injured and was immediately rushed to Area “B” police station along with two of the people that attacked him.

ACP Bayo Sulaimon thereafter ordered the detention of the two attackers that were arrested while a letter of medical referral was issued for the victims attention at the hospital.

With the return of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) after Visionscape failed to provide the needed clean up of Lagos streets and roads of refuse and dirt, the thinking that the city would experience cleanliness again might be a mirage.

This is because almost two years after the recall of LAWMA, heap of refuse still dot many parts of the city for days with nobody clearing them.
