FG Declares Operation Amotekun Illegal

Barely a few days after the inauguration of a security outfit known as Amotekun by South-West states, the Federal Government has declared the paramilitary outfit as illegal as it is not backed by any known law in the land.

₦13,500 Pay Threatens Operation Amotekun

IBADAN —THE newly launched joint security outfit, Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Operation Amotekun, was threatened, yesterday, by the Soludero Hunters’ Association, SHA.

Members of the hunters’ association rejected the proposed N13,500 monthly payment for personnel of the outfit.

The hunters also called on the initiators to organize a parley where all the personnel would meet to identify themselves.

But reacting, the Ondo State Government said the six South-West states have not agreed on remuneration for the personnel.

Amotekun: Gov. Abiodun Speaks On Withdrawing From Outfit

Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun has reacted to reports making the rounds on plans to pull out of Operation Amotekun.

The South West Security Network, christened Amotekun has since commenced operations in all the six states in the South West

Reactions have continued to trail the creation of Amotekun which was launched on January 9, 2019.

Amotekun: NBA Declares Position

As controversy rages over the establishment of a joint security outfit codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’, the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA), Ado Ekiti chapter, has declared that the Southwest Governors, had not breached any section of the 1999 constitution for establishing the security network.

The legal association added that the governors only exercised their rights under the law, since the kernel of the existence of any government, is to guarantee security of lives and property.

Amotekun: IPOB Reacts To Outfit, Blasts Ohanaeze

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday commended Southwest governors for establishing a security outfit, South West Security Network also known as Operation Amotekun.

Amotekun: Only criminals, With Hidden Agenda Are Jittery

A security expert, Dr Kazeem Idowu, has berated antagonists of the security arrangement in the South West, tagged: ‘South West Security Network ( Operation Amotekun), insisting that only criminally-minded people would criticize such initiative.

Idowu opined that the present security challenges in Nigeria should ordinarily elicit proactive measures and creative steps from any serious government towards curtailing the menace before becoming endemic.

The security expert , in a press statement he sent to NAN on Friday, argued that the only way insecurity could be effectively tackled in Nigeria is through organized community policing system such as ” Operation Amotekun”.

Amotekun: Northerners Blow Hot Over S-West Security Outfit

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has berated the Southwest Governors for the establishment of Amotekun.

On Thursday January 9, the Western Nigeria Security Network known as Amotekun commenced operations in Yorubaland.

The NYCN, in a statement signed by its National President, Comrade Isah Abubakar, stated that Amotekun is “OPC military wing in disguise”.

They argued that the move was a threat to national peace and security.

Amotekun: Don’t Betray Yorubas –Ooni of Ife, Warns Security

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Thursday warned personnel who will be working with the new security outfit, Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), popularly known as Amotekun, not to betray the interest of Yoruba land.

Ogunwusi gave this warning during the launching of Amotekun by the governors of the South West region.

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, on Friday applauded the establishment of Amotekun security outfit in the Southwest.

Fani-Kayode urged governors in the South-South and South-East to emulate such move in their respective regions.
