Mauritania-Bound Almajiris Intercepted By NIS In Kebbi

Men of the Nigeria immigration service (NIS), Kebbi state command on Sunday confirmed the interception of no fewer than 21 almajiris, one cleric Hussaini Salmanu Idris an indigene of Niger state at Kangiwa border in Kebbi state while on routine patrol.

This was made known by the state comptroller of immigration, Rabi Bashir Nuhu in Birnin Kebbi. According to her, the cleric and the almajiris were reportedly en route from Senegal to Mauritania when they were arrested by her personnel at the border.

Dangote Writes Ohanaeze Over Influx Of Almajiris To Nigeria’s South

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has refuted assertions that his company’s trucks were being used to transport Almajiris from the Northern part of Nigeria to the South.

His reaction was contained in a letter dated May 27 and addressed to the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, John Nwodo.

It was released on Wednesday night by Emeka Attama, Nwodo’s media assistant.

C’River Govt Sends 5 Trucks Laden With Almajiris To North

Cross River State Government has ordered the returned of five truck loaded with almajiris including other passengers back to the northern part of the country.

A border patrol team, comprising Peace Corp members, civilian vigilantes, COVID-19 border taskforce, and youth groups etc had intercepted the trucks on Wednesday night at the Garkem border town in Bekwara LGA of the state near Benue State.

The team leader, Signor Omang Idiege, who is Commissioner for Youths, said it was as a result of intensive search and blockade of interstate vehicular travels, led his team to intercept the trucks.

Shehu Sani Reveals How Governors Can Solve Almajiri Issue

Shehu Sani, former Kaduna lawmaker has condemned the deportation of almajiris to their States of origin.

The deportation of Almajiris kicked off in most northern states in order to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the region.

However, Sani on Thursday, said the move by the governors will not solve the almajiri problems in Nigeria.

He suggested that rehabilitation and education of the almajiris was the only way to solve the problem.

According to him, the deportation move by the governors is a way of hiding “bucket of faeces”.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has said that the deportation of Almajiris from various Northern States to their indigenous States was an agreement between the governors of the region.

Hajiya Zainab Magaji, the Programme Manager of Bi-Lingual Educational Programme in Nasarawa State says no rights of any Almajiri student will be trampled upon under the watch of the programme in the state.
