The House of Representatives has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and end the interstate movement of Almajiri immediately.

Some governors, mostly the Northern ones have been in the business repatriation of the almajiri children to their states of origin.

Also, vehicles conveying almajiri children have been intercepted in various states lately.

This formed part of the resolutions of the members of the House of Representatives during Tuesday’s plenary

The call followed a motion sponsored by a member of the House, Aishatu Dukku.

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) (name withheld) allegedly beat a young almajiri to death at Bebeji village in Bebeji local government area of Kano.

A source from the village Shehu Sulaiman told The Guardian that the incident occurred Thursday at the NYSC lodge in the village when the suspect gathered some almajiris for his usual distribution of charity.

Nigerian Government denies plan to ban Almajiri

The Presidency on Friday dismissed media report that the Federal Government had concluded arrangements to ban the Almajiri system of education.

The Almajiri system of education is a form of Qur’anic learning system associated with begging on economic and religious grounds peculiar to some Northern states.

Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement in Abuja, however, said that the prescription of the Almajiri system had remained an objective of the Buhari administration.
