The Federal Government has stated that its directive that social media platforms operating in the country as well as other Over the Top (OTT) platforms must register and obtain a license to operate is in conformity with global trend and not only peculiar to Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed made this assertion on Friday when he featured on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) programme ‘Good Morning Nigeria’ which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York.

The federal government has denied stifling freedom of expression especially when it involves criticism from the media.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this on Conflict Zone, a political programme on Deutsche Welle when he appeared before Tim Sebastian.
