Major Nigerian Airports To Reopen In ‘Few Days’

Major airports in Nigeria are expected to reopen in the “next few days”, following weeks of inactivity due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The federal government shut all airports in the country for one month on March 13.

It was later extended by two weeks.

On May 6, the FG announced airport will remain closed until June 7.

However, the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu, speaking at a virtual event organized by the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ART) today, said the flights will commence at selected airports

‘Why Nigerian Airports Are Unviable’

 

The Chief Operating Officer of Aero Contractors, Captain Ado Sanusi, has said the reason why Nigerian airports are not generating enough funds that can be used for their maintenance is because they are not commercially viable.

Sanusi, who spoke to THISDAY, in an exclusive interview, said political, rather than economic consideration, was the major reason why some airports in Nigeria are built.

However, he noted the importance of having many airports in the country because of its size. This, he said, would facilitate quicker connection between one part of the country to another.
