FG Will Reopen Enugu Airport Before Easter 2020 – Sirika

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, has given assurance that Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, would be reopened before the 2020 Easter celebration.

Sirika gave the assurance during the ministry’s budget defence before the House Committee on Aviation at the National Assembly, Abuja.

He also promised that the airport would be one of the best in the country at the end of the reconstruction work.

This is a departure from the earlier statement made by the minister that the airport would be reopened in time for the Christmas celebration this year.

The House Committee Chairman on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for granting the approval for ₦10 billion Special Intervention Fund for the reconstruction of the collapsed Akanu Ibiam International Airport, (AIIA) Enugu runway and associated facilities.

The approval was communicated to the South-east delegation during its visit to the Presidential Villa on Thursday. Reacting to the approval, Nnaji noted that the airport was critical to the people of South-east and environs because it was the only international gateway serving the entire region.
