PG&E Agrees To $13.5 Billion Payout For California Fires

California’s Pacific Gas and Electric will pay $13.5 billion to settle lawsuits over its role in a series of wildfires that killed scores of people and destroyed thousands of homes, the utility giant said Friday.

Faulty PG&E powerlines were blamed for sparking last year’s so-called Camp Fire in northern California — the deadliest in the state’s history — that left 86 people dead.

Outdated facilities including vulnerable wooden poles and failure to deforest land surrounding high-voltage transmission lines were blamed for the inferno, prompting accusations the San Francisco-based firm had put profit before safety.

Kenya, Lalong Agrees To Establish Tea Factory In Plateau

Plateau State Governor and Chairman of Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong said he has concluded arrangement for the establishment of tea processing factory in Plateau in collaboration with Kenya Government.
This follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
between Plateau State Government and the Government of Kericho County in Kenya during the visit of Governor Lalong to various Counties of the Country.

Sudan Agrees To Aid, Ceasefire, In Peace Talks With Rebels

Sudan’s government agreed Monday to allow humanitarian relief to war-torn parts of the country and renewed a ceasefire pact with major rebel groups at peace talks in South Sudan.

Officials from all sides said the new administration in Khartoum and the two umbrella groups of rebels had signed a declaration to keep the doors open to dialogue.

“The political declaration will pave the way for political negotiations and is a step towards a just, comprehensive and final peace in Sudan,” said General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, a key figure in Sudan’s transitional government.
