Incarcerated Journalist Agba Jalingo Finally Granted Bail

A Federal High court in Calabar, Cross River State has granted journalist and rights activist, Agba Jalingo a ₦10 million bail.

A new judge, Justice Shuaibu presided over the case for the first time after taking over from Justice Simon Amobeda who recused himself from the case following condemnations that trailed refusals to grant the Journalist bail on three occasions.

In his ruling while granting bail applied by Agba Jalingo, Justice Shuaibu set the bail bond at N10 million with one surety in like sum.

Ayade Dragged To Court Over Trial Of Publisher Jalingo

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has dragged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government and the Cross River state government of governor Ben Ayade to ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja “over the prolonged, arbitrary detention, unfair prosecution, persecution, and sham trial of journalist Agba Jalingo.”

Jalingo, who is the publisher of CrossRiverWatch, was arrested on August 22 over a report alleging that Mr Ayade diverted N500 million belonging to the state.

Agba Jalingo: Cross River Govt Takes Over Prosecution

The Cross River State government has taken over the prosecution of Agba Jalingo, publisher of the news portal, CrossRiverWatch who is standing trial on terrorism and other related charges in the State.

The state’s attorney general, Tanko Ashang informed Justice Simon Amobeda who presided over Court 2 of the Calabar division of the Federal High Court, that a letter to that effect had been filed and is in the records of the court.
