Supreme Court Adjourns All Guber Cases As Justice Falls Ill

The Supreme court, Monday abruptly adjourned all gubernatorial cases before it as one of the seven Justices hearing the appeal in the 2019 Kano state governorship election suddenly fell ill during sitting.

But before the sudden resolution to adjourn, counsel for Abbah Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic party, Gboyega Awomolo adopted his brief and urged the court to allow the appeal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammad to announce that the court will have to abruptly rise.

INEC Adjourns Collation Till Monday

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has adjourned the collation of the Kogi State governorship election result till 8am Monday.

The INEC Returning Officer for the state, Prof. Mohammed Umar, disclosed that this has become necessary to enable the collation officers do their work in the remaining two local government areas — Lokoja and Ibaji respectively.

Meanwhile, Governor Yahaya Bello is leading in the results of the 19 local government areas declared by INEC so far.

Court Adjourns Suit Challenging Gov. Yahaya Eligibility

 The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, adjourned continuation of hearing on the suit challenging whether Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, is fit to contest in the Nov. 16 governorship election till Nov. 21.

The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, who adjourned the case, said the decision was to afford Gov. Bello, who sought to be joined in the matter, a fair hearing.

Justice Ekwo said all preliminary objections in the suit would be taken in the adjourned date and any party absent on the day would be deemed to have adopted them.

A justice of the Court of Appeal, Mohammed Idris, sitting at the Federal High Court, Lagos, with the permission of the President of the Court of Appeal, yesterday ordered the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu and other co-accused persons to file their final written addresses in the N7.2 billion fraud charge slammed against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Court adjourns hearing on El-Zakzaky bail till August 5

A Kaduna State High Court has set aside August 5, 2019, to rule on the bail application filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat.

El-Zakzaky’s lawyer Femi Falana filed the application on behalf of his clients on July 18, seeking permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.

Falana said the Shiites leader’s health was getting worse by the day.

He stated that only a foreign medical treatment was required to stabilise the couple’s health condition.

But the prosecuting counsel Debris Bayero opposed the bail application.

CCT adjourns over Onnoghen’ high BP, tooth ache

The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen has suffered high blood pressure and tooth ache.

Onnoghen is standing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in relation to his alleged breach of code of conduct for public officers for allegedly failing to declare his assets.

The suspended CJN, who attended proceedings on Monday when the tribunal ordered a day-to-day hearing in the case, was absent at the resumption of proceedings on Tuesday.
