Abia Opens Testing Lab To Address Frequent Building Collapse

Abia State Government has opened a fully equipped building material testing laboratory in a bid to curb frequent building collapse and enforce construction standards across the state.

The laboratory, located within the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) premises, is now fully operational. It can carry out tests on concrete, soil, aggregates, asphalt pavement, steel reinforcement, and other structural materials. Officials say the facility will also conduct field and non-destructive testing to verify the integrity of ongoing projects.

The Abia State Government has approved new working hours for markets in the State as COVID-19 continues to spread across the country.

It also released new guidelines on how wedding ceremonies will henceforth be conducted in the State.

Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on COVID-19, Barr. Chris Ezem, made this known in a statement on Thursday.

The Abia State Government has berated some churches in the State for paying lip service to Government directives and order on COVID-19.

Recall that the State Government had mandated 50 persons per stream of every church service, as well as other necessary protocols as part of precautionary measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.
