The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved the signing of an agreement with the Island of Jersey and the United States of America for the repatriation of $321m stolen assets recovered from the former military ruler, late Gen. Sani Abacha.
Addressing State House Correspondents after a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Mohammadu Buhari, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, said council okayed the tripartite agreement to be signed next week for the purpose of repatriation of the looted assets.Malami disclosed that the recovered funds will be expended on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway,

$267m Abacha loot recovered from British Virgin Islands

More than $267 million traced to the family of late Nigerian despot General Sani Abacha has been seized from a British Virgin Islands bank and paid into government coffers in an American state of Jersey.

The money was a part of more than  $300 million stash the Jersey State government said on its website was “laundered through the US banking system by people including President Abacha’s son Mohammed” during the military regime of General Sani Abacha.

APC, PDP fight over ploy to buy votes with Abacha loot

The All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State yesterday exchanged verbal invectives over PDP’s allegations that the ruling party reserved recovered loot for vote-buying.

The opposition said the ruling party allegedly perfected plans to use the recovered loot from the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, to buy votes in the forthcoming polls, use security operatives to rig the elections and use officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to perpetrate electoral fraud.
