Tottenham Weather Man City Storm To Snatch Win

Steven Bergwijn’s debut goal helped Tottenham to a remarkable 2-0 win over 10-man Manchester City on Sunday to breathe new life into their challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s men had been completely outplayed for the first hour, but were kept in the game by City’s profligacy and Hugo Lloris’s first-half penalty save from Ilkay Gundogan.

However, Oleksandr Zinchenko’s sending off changed the course of the game as Spurs scored with their first two shots on goal through Bergwijn and Son Heung-min.

Victory lifts Spurs up to fifth, just four points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

France’s South Africa-born lock Paul Willemse said on Sunday he was “scared” by the potential in the squad after opening their Six Nations campaign with a 24-17 victory over England in Paris.

Willemse, who played for his hometown side of the Blue Bulls in Pretoria before qualifying for Les Bleus on residency grounds last year, was one of 11 players in the starting lineup with less than 20 Test caps.

“The scary thing is that I believe there’s lots of room for improvement in our team still so it gives me confidence in the future,” Willemse told AFP.

EPL: Ozil’s Near Deadline Exit From Arsenal Blocked

Arsenal playmaker, Mesut Ozil, almost left the club on transfer deadline day, the UK Mirror reports.

The German had an offer from a Qatari club, but the deal fell through with the Gunners blocking his exit.

Although Ozil was ready to consider leaving the Emirates, Arsenal felt the timing was too short.

It is also understood that manager Mikel Arteta, was willing to let the 31-year-old go, especially as the suitor was going to foot his huge salary.

But the timing of the proposed switch left the Gunners with little time to source any source of replacement.

Ozil, who was

Kanu Suggests Alternative To January AFCON Schedule

Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu has suggested a drastic solution to the Confederation of African Football’s scheduling problem around the Africa Cup of Nations.

CAF acceded to a request by Cameroon’s local organising committee last month to stage the 2021 tournament in January. This comes just one edition after it was played in June-July for the first time last year in sweltering Egypt.

Kanu, who represented Nigeria at four Afcon tournaments, agrees with Klopp, saying he would have preferred the competition to stay in June-July, in order to protect players from prospective club-versus-country disputes.

“If you ask any player, playing the

Liverpool surged 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 win over Southampton, while Bruno Fernandes made his Manchester United debut in a goalless draw against Wolves on Saturday.

Kanu Hotel’s Take-Over Case Resumes Tuesday

The case involving former Nigeria international, Nwankwo Kanu, and AMCON over the takeover of his hotel will resume on January 28 at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos as the parties involved hope for a final resolution.

A Federal High Court had ordered that the hotel named Hardley Apartments and located on Waziri Ibrahim Crescent on Victoria Island, Lagos, be locked up after an unresolved issue with AMCON dating back to 2015.

But matters took a disturbing twist early last year when some unknown persons defied the court order by taking over the property and converted it to their own …
