Rory McIlroy, making his first start as world number one since 2015, pulled within two strokes of 36-hole leader Matt Kuchar Friday as Tiger Woods’s hopes of a landmark Genesis Invitational win dwindled.

Northern Ireland star McIlroy fired six birdies in a four-under par 67 at Riviera Country Club, to share second place on seven-under 135 with Americans Harold Varner and Wyndham Clark, who both signed for 68s.

Kuchar, who started the day with a three-shot lead, posted a two-under 69 that put him at nine-under par 133.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria has moved up four places in the February FIFA rankings released, now occupying the 31st position in the world and are third in Africa.

Manchester City Banned From European Club Competitions

UEFA has banned Manchester City from all European club competition in 2020/21 and 2021/22 after being found to have committed “serious breaches” of the association’s club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

The reigning Premier League champions have also been fined 30m euros (£25m).

According to Uefa, the decision is subject to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
