U.S. Basketball Legend Patrick Ewing Down With COVID-19

U.S. Basketball hall-of-famer Patrick Ewing announced on Friday that he has contracted the coronavirus and has been hospitalised.

Ewing, who is now the head coach of Georgetown University basketball team shared his status on Twitter, along with a statement by the university.

NFL Set To Lose $5.5 Billion If It Plays To Empty Stadiums

NFL teams stand to lose a combined $5.5 billion (5 billion euros) in stadium revenue if the 2020 campaign is played without any spectators, according to a Forbes magazine estimate.

The magazine, which annually values each NFL club, said the amount teams would lose with no spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic equals 38 percent of total NFL revenue from the 2018 season, the latest from which figures are available.

That includes lost revenue from ticket sales, parking, sponsors, food and drinks and souvenir sales.

Belgium Coach Martinez Extends Contract Until 2022

Roberto Martinez has extended his contract as Belgium coach until 2022 to take him up to the World Cup in Qatar, the Belgian football federation announced Wednesday.

The 46-year-old former Everton manager took over as head coach of the Belgian national side in 2016, leading them to third in the 2018 World Cup.

The Spaniard’s initial contract ran until Euro 2020, which has been postponed a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

He has overseen the Red Devils in 43 games in total, notching up 34 wins, six draws and just three defeats, leaving Belgium as FIFA’s number one ranked

The Confederation of African Football on Wednesday shunned Nigerian players on the shortlist for the 2011 African Player of the Year award.

The continent football governing body  included three Ghanaians in the 10-man list, Supersport reports.

The Ghanaians are Andre Ayew, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Asamoah Gyan. The list was announced at a short ceremony in Accra on Wednesday morning.

Three English Premier League clubs have returned six positive cases for coronavirus.

This followed the testing of players and staff ahead of a return to training.

“The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday 17 May and Monday 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19,” the league said in a statement.
