Michael Jordan Donates $100m To Racial Equality Groups

Basketball legend Michael Jordan said Friday he is making a record $100 million donation to groups fighting for racial equality and social justice.

The donation comes amid a wave of protests across the United States.

MJ said in a statement his Jordan Brand would distribute the money over 10 years to different organisations in a bid to stamp out “ingrained racism.”

The pledge is believed to be the largest financial contribution to non-profit groups ever made by a figure from the sports world.

Manchester United striker, Odion Ighalo, has revealed that he was called “all sorts of names” by an opposition player while playing in China.

Speaking with Sky Sports, Ighalo further said he would walk off the pitch if he is racially abused again in his career.

Qatar announced the completion of its third stadium for the 2022 World Cup, state media reported late Thursday, as the emirate prepared to mark three years of a regional feud.

Education City stadium had been due to host the semi-final of the Club World Cup on December 18, but its opening was postponed because of delays to certification.

Chelsea have agreed a deal in principle to sign Germany striker Timo Werner from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, Sky Sports said on Thursday.

He would be the second signing of the London Club as they already agreed a deal to sign Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech.

The report added that Werner has a 55 million euro ($62.45 million) release clause which expires on June 15.

Chelsea reportedly had offered the 24-year-old a contract worth 200,000 pounds per week.

Werner is second-top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 25 goals.

Retired boxing champ Floyd Mayweather will pay for the funeral services for George Floyd, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe told ESPN on Monday.

George Floyd died last week after a Minneapolis policeman knelt on the 46-year-old man’s neck for almost nine minutes.

Floyd, who was handcuffed, became unresponsive after almost three minutes.

The death of the unarmed black man while in police custody has ignited violent reactions across America.

Nigerian Odion Ighalo is not returning to Shanghai Shenhua so soon, as he has agreed an extension of his loan deal with Manchester United until end of January 2021.

The deal is now awaiting English FA approval.

United agreement with his parent club Shanghai Shenhua officially expired on Sunday night.
