Chelsea Owner, Abramovich Hands Over Club To ‘Trustees’

Chelsea Football Club owner, Roman Abramovich on Saturday handed over the affairs of the club to trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation following last week’s Russian invasion of Ukraine which has drawn heavy European sanctions.

The UK had on Thursday began issuing heavy sanctions against Russian entities after the invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Abramovich is a Russian oligarch, one of the groups targeted by western sanctions.

There had been uncertainty over Mr Abramovich’s continued control of one of the UK’s most successful clubs amid the crisis.

World football governing body, FIFA has announced the suspension of Kenya and Zimbabwe for what the body described as government interference in football matters.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino made this decision public this at a press conference on Thursday which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York.

Kenya’s Ministry of Sports in November 2021, suspended the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and appointed a caretaker committee to take charge of soccer activities in the country.
