New Zealand said their comprehensive innings victory over England was among their very best after Neil Wagner’s five-wicket burst sealed the first Test in Mount Maunganui on Monday.

The tireless left-armer took the last two England wickets in successive balls for a five-wicket haul and to complete the rout by an innings and 65 runs late on the final day.

While England captain Joe Root lamented a disappointing batting effort, and the lack of a bowler with Wagner’s application, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson celebrated his side’s match-defining innings of 615 for nine declared.

Neymar Has ‘Matured’ As A Person And Player – Marquinhos

When Paris Saint-Germain travel to Spain on Tuesday to face Real Madrid in the Champions League it will be with a Neymar who has, according to his teammate Marquinhos, grown up.

“Neymar has lived things that have matured him as a person, and as a player,” the PSG vice-captain told AFP.

There is no doubt that there have been plenty of concerns for the French side over their record 222 million euro signing since he joined from Barcelona in 2017.

The 27-year-old forward has helped PSG to two titles in a weak Ligue 1 but has failed to inspire …

Gulf Cup To Kick Off In Qatar Amid Hopes Of Easing Embargo

The Gulf Cup begins in Doha on Tuesday when Qatar faces Iraq with hopes high that the participation of the Saudi-led regional bloc could lead them to ease their blockade of Doha.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain announced earlier this month they would contest the 24th Arabian Gulf title despite their boycott of Qatar since June 2017.

The trio, along with Egypt, have closed their airspace to Qatar Airways and blocked their citizens visiting the country over claims Doha backs radical Islamists and seeks closer links with Iran. Qatar vehemently denies the claims.

But there are …

Sergio Aguero will miss next month’s Manchester derby after being ruled out for “a few weeks” with a thigh injury, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said on Monday.

The City striker hobbled out of the champions’ 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, and Guardiola is unsure how long the Argentine will be sidelined but is resigned to his missing the visit of Manchester United on December 7.

The City boss, speaking at a press conference to preview Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk, said: “He will be out a few games. I don’t …

Brescia Boss Under-Fire For Balotelli ‘Black’ Joke

Brescia president Massimo Cellino came under fire on Monday after he described Mario Balotelli’s difficult situation at the promoted Serie A club as “black”.

Balotelli was dropped for Brescia’s 3-0 defeat at Roma on Sunday after clashing with new club coach Fabio Grosso for his lack of commitment during training during the week.

“What do you want me to say about him (Balotelli)?” Cellino said on the sidelines of a Lega Serie A assembly on Monday.

“That he is black, he is working to clear things up, but he has a lot of difficulties.”

Cellino was making a play on …

Mourinho Rules Out Zlatan Signing For Spurs

Jose Mourinho says there is “no chance” of Tottenham signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the veteran forward was linked with a move to the club following his exit from LA Galaxy.

Mourinho worked with Ibrahimovic at Inter Milan and Manchester United but said signing the 38-year-old would not make sense with Harry Kane at his disposal.

“You are right about the connection, we have more than a connection,” Mourinho said when asked on Monday whether he would be trying to sign the Swede.

“I would say also passion and understanding, an amazing player and an amazing guy, but I would say …

Benzema Helps Madrid Defeat Real Sociedad

Karim Benzema scored his sixth goal in five games to help Real Madrid beat high-flying Real Sociedad 3-1 on Saturday as Gareth Bale came on as a substitute to a screech of whistles at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bale, only recently fit again after a calf injury, was named on the bench following his controversial outing with Wales last week, when he celebrated victory behind a flag that read: “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.”

But Zinedine Zidane brought Bale on for Rodrygo in the 67th minute and the home fans, who had already jeered his name before kick-off, made their …

Barbosa Fires Flamengo To Last Gasp Copa Libertadores

Flamengo came back from the dead to break the hearts of holders River Plate and win the Copa Libertadores in Lima on Saturday with a thrilling late brace from Gabriel Barbosa that decided the final 2-1 at the death.

After turning the game on its head in a frantic finale, Barbosa then got sent off along with River’s Ezequiel Palacios.

River had never looked like relinquishing …

Dutch Great Van Basten Left Red-Faced After Nazi Quip

Former Dutch football great Marco van Basten apologised Saturday after he was heard using a Nazi greeting to ridicule a Dutch television journalist’s German during an interview.

Van Basten, 55, who is regarded as one of the game’s best ever strikers, made the comment on Fox Sports pay-to-view channel after an interview ahead of the Eredivisie clash between Ajax and Heracles.

His words could be heard in the studio moments after TV presenter Hans Kraay’s interview in German with Heracles’ German manager Frank Wormuth.

“Not too pretty, sieg heil, pfannkuchen (pancake),” Van Basten said, using the Nazi German greeting
