Guardiola Wants To Stay At Man City Beyond 2021

Pep Guardiola is interested in staying as Manchester City manager beyond the length of his current contract with the Premier League champions, which is due to expire next summer.

The 48-year-old is already on course to make City the longest employer of his managerial career, having spent four years at Barcelona and three in charge of Bayern Munich.

But Guardiola has for the first time indicated that he would be prepared to discuss the prospect of staying beyond the summer of 2021 and into a sixth season in charge at the Etihad.

“I’m open (to staying) yes, I’m so comfortable …

Young United Talent Gives Solskjaer Food For Thought

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will continue the difficult balancing act of integrating Manchester United’s exciting young talent into a first team still struggling to find consistency when they take on Aston Villa on Sunday.

United faced a marathon trek to play Astana in Kazakhstan on Thursday although, having already qualified from their Europa League group, the United manager was able to rest his entire first team squad.

Striker Jesse Lingard was the only regular first team player to make the trip as Solskjaer kept one eye on the Villa game and an increasingly frustrating domestic campaign.

United are presently nine points …

Nervy Leipzig Go Top, Klinsmann Loses At New Club Hertha

RB Leipzig returned to the top of the Bundesliga Saturday with a nervous 3-2 win at bottom side Paderborn, but both Bayern Munich and Borussia Moenchengladbach could yet replace them in first place this weekend.

Leipzig regained top spot for the first time since September by winning at Paderborn, capping a fine week for the club after reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in midweek.

Defending champions Bayern can draw level on 27 points by beating Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena later Saturday.

Moenchengladbach, who Leipzig knocked down into second, can reclaim top …

Emotional Debutant Martin Gives Pellegrini A Lift

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini insisted the speculation he was on the verge of being sacked was no distraction after a dream debut for an emotional David Martin inspired Saturday’s shock 1-0 win at Chelsea.

Pellegrini’s decision to give Martin his first Premier League start proved a successful gamble and left the 33-year-old goalkeeper crying tears of joy at the final whistle.

While Martin’s moment in the spotlight was as heart-warming as it was unexpected, West Ham’s first win in eight league games made the trip to Stamford Bridge even more significant for Pellegrini, who was reportedly give two matches …

Alli Double Sends Mourinho’s Tottenham Up To Fifth

Jose Mourinho’s perfect start as Tottenham manager stretched to three games as Spurs saw off Bournemouth 3-2 thanks to Dele Alli’s double on Saturday.

Recovering Alli’s form of old was one of Mourinho’s stated priorities when taking charge last week and it is already paying dividends as the England international has now scored three times in three games under Mourinho.

Moussa Sissoko scored his first goal for over two years in emphatic fashion on the volley from Son Heung-min’s cross to make it 3-0 before two goals from substitute Harry Wilson gave Bournemouth late hope of a dramatic comeback.…

Bordeaux Down Racing At ‘Community Hall’

Bordeaux-Begles defeated Racing92 on the road for the first time in 12 years on Saturday to maintain their second place in the French Top 14 table.

Both sides ran in four tries each but Matthieu Jalibert’s greater accuracy with the boot proved crucial in a 34-30 win which kept Bordeaux on the shoulder of leaders Lyon.

Fiji winger Semi Radradra grabbed two tries for Bordeaux while New Zealand-born French international flyer Virimi Vakatawa also scored twice.

Both men were, however, also yellow carded.

Victory was especially sweet for Bordeaux coach Cristophe Urios who had described Racing’s ultra-modern, multi-sport Paris La …

Ten-Man Liverpool Grateful For Van Dijk Double

A first-half brace from Virgil van Dijk lifted Liverpool 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League in a 2-1 win over Brighton that was filled with drama after the sending off of home goalkeeper Alisson.

The Brazilian was dismissed on 76 minutes as he raced out of his area to handle an attempted chip by Brighton substitute Leandro Trossard.

Spanish replacement Adrian came on but his first act was to pick the ball out of the net as Lewis Dunk rolled the free-kick past the Liverpool wall and an unprepared goalkeeper.

The loss in midweek of influential …

Madrid Go Top After Gutsy Win At Alaves

Sergio Ramos scored a goal and conceded a penalty as Real Madrid battled past Alaves on Saturday to go top of La Liga before Sunday’s game between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Barca and Atletico face off at the Wanda Metropolitano and Madrid did all they could to take advantage, with Dani Carvajal the unlikely matchwinner in a gritty 2-1 victory over Alaves.

“We know at these grounds that teams give everything against Madrid,” said Marcelo. “It’s in these matches that leagues are won.”

“We fought until the end,” added Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane.

Ramos had headed them in front shortly …

Monza Wins Highlight Of Leclerc’s First Season At Ferrari

Charles Leclerc took time out at this weekend’s season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to reflect on his first year at Ferrari and the mayhem generated by his “crazy” win at Monza.

It was “probably the best week of my whole life” Leclerc told AFP of his Italian Grand Prix success.

The 22-year-old Monegasque dealt admirably with the massive pressure of the celebrations for Ferrari’s 90th anniversary to secure pole and a first home win for his team since 2010.

“Very difficult to put into words what I felt on the podium with hundreds and thousands of people underneath me yelling …

Hamilton Ends ‘Long Slog’ With Pole In Abu Dhabi

Lewis Hamilton claimed his first pole position in four months with a scorching record lap at the Yas Marina circuit on Saturday as Mercedes dominated qualifying ahead Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The recently crowned champion delivered a late lap in one minute and 34.779 seconds to outpace team-mate Valtteri Bottas, who is set to start from the back of the grid after collecting penalties for taking new engines.

It was a stunning way for Hamilton to finish the ‘qualifying season’ and improved his career record total to 88 poles, five of them in Abu Dhabi.

It was his first

Taiwan’s Wheelchair Athletes Find Love On The Dance Floor

Taiwanese athletes Vincent Kuo and Ivy Huang each discovered an electric talent for wheelchair dancing on their own — but it was when they were paired up together that the sparks really flew.

Part of the island’s last generation of polio survivors, they have spent years perfecting their dance routines.

Currently ranked world number two, the recently-married couple are in Germany this weekend to compete in the World Para Dance Sport Championship.

“I have always been interested in sports even if I can’t play them because of my disabilities,” Kuo told AFP during a break from practicing Latin dance moves …
