AIB explains why Osinbajo’s helicopter crashed

LAGOS—The Accident Investigation Bureau, AIB, yesterday, released preliminary report on the helicopter crash involving the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and members of his team.

The helicopter, Agusta AW139 with registration number: 5N-PEJ and serial number: 31389 owned and operated by Caverton Helicopters crash landed in Kabba, Kogi State with twelve passengers on board, including the Vice President.

According to the initial reports released in Lagos by the AIB Commissioner, Engineer Akin Olateru, the said helicopter had a valid certificate of airworthiness.

Sixteen-Year-Old Akachukwu Anumudu of Apostolic Faith Secondary School, Anthony, Lagos, on Saturday, February 9, 2019, emerged winner of the first edition of the InterswitchSPAK National Science Competition held in Lagos – Nigeria.

North Korea nuclear threat not over yet

Since President Trump met last year with Kim Jong Un, North Korea hasn’t changed a thing about its military capabilities. This blunt assessment came from Gen. Robert Abrams, commander of US Forces Korea, during a Senate hearing. Abrams said the North’s military still has the potential to put the US, South Korea and other allies at risk.

Tensions along the DMZ have eased though, the general said. Trump, who has said previously that the nuclear threat from North Korea is over, meets with Kim for a second summit on February 27 and 28 in Vietnam.

US border security deal

President Trump said he’s “not happy” with the border security deal struck by negotiators in Congress. And he’s not the only one frowning on the agreement, which falls far short of the $5.7 billion Trump originally demanded for a border wall.

Some of the most conservative and liberal members of Congress have problems with it, too, but they’re likely to fall in line because no one wants another government shutdown. And that’s exactly what will happen if a bill based on the deal isn’t passed into law by the end of the week.

15 Imo gubernatorial candidates adopt Senator Araraume

Fifteen governorship candidates of diffrent political parties under the platform of forum of Imo state governorship candidates Wednesday adopted the state governorship flag-bearer of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume.

NYSC warns members on election duty not to accept snacks

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday warned corps members on election duty to desist from receiving snacks and drinks from unknown persons during elections.

Maj.-Gen. Suleiman Kazaure, NYSC Director-General, gave the warning while addressing the corps members in Gombe. Kazaure, who was represented by Mr Zakaria Alphonso, Assistant Director, Mobilisation, NYSC, Abuja, said that such gifts could harm them. “Because such items can be poisoned or flavoured with drugs that can induce sleep,” he said.

Babachir Lawal docked over ₦272 million grass-cutting deal

ABUJA—Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, docked former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, before an Abuja High Court at Maitama, following his alleged complicity in ₦272 million contract fraud.

Lawal, whose arraignment came about two years after he was accused of illegally diverting a contract the Presidential Initiative for North-East, PINE, awarded for the removal of grasses in Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camps, to his own company, pleaded not guilty to the 10-count criminal charge the EFCC preferred against him.

Bloody clash at APC campaign rally in Ekiti
