Bloodbath continues in Zamfara, bandits kill 50

At least 50 people, including several members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), in Zamfara State have been killed in Kaura Namoda by rampaging bandits.
This is coming on the heels of a robust security action plan tagged, ‘Operation Puff Adder’ launched by the Ag. Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu aimed at flushing out criminal elements across some states of the federation, Zamfara inclusive.
The Speaker of the Zamfara State House Assembly, Sanusi Rikiji, who revealed this during a condolence visit to Kaura Namoda, said the killings took place on Tuesday and attributed the incidence to CJTF confrontation

Outrage as hoodlums kill LUTH doctor just after graduation

Tempers rose and tears flowed freely yesterday following the death of a fresh medical doctor, barely 24 hours after graduating from the University of Lagos. He was stabbed on Thursday by suspected hoodlums but gave up the ghost  yesterday.

The victim, Dr Stephen Urueye, was a house officer at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH).

Two suspects have already been arrested by the police in connection with the murder.

‘Lawmaker’s daughter worked in PenCom with fake degrees’

A federal lawmaker and Pension Ad Hoc Committee Chairman’s daughter, Deborah Ighiwiyisi Agbonayinma has been working with the National Pension Commission (PenCom) with fake foreign and local university degree certificates, The Nation has learnt.

Deborah’s father is Ehionzuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, the member representing Egor/Ikpoba-Okha of Edo State in the  House of Representatives.

A source at the National Assembly, who pleaded anonymity, said Deborah Agbonayinma was sacked about four weeks ago. She worked at the commission for three years.

The source said Miss Agbonayinma worked in other government agency with the fake certificates before joining PenCom.

IGP launches operation ‘Puff Adder’ on Abuja-Kaduna highway

The Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, yesterday launched a special operation to tackle the increasing rate of kidnapping and robbery on the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

UAE clarifies: No change in visa policy for Nigerians

The United Arab Emirates(UAE) Embassy in Abuja said the country’s visa policy has not changed, debunking  reports  in the media that it has suspended issuing three-month visa to Nigerian visitors.

An embassy source clarified that the 90-day or 60-day visa is not meant for tourists, but it is issued only to those going to the country for business.

Tourists, the official said, are entitled to 14-day visa.

Presidency has yet to confirm the resignation of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, even as the news gathers momentum.

Suspended CJN Onnoghen resigns

Suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has tendered his resignation as CJN, according to a member of his legal team.

Though his resignation has not been announced officially, one of his counsels, who said he was not authorised by Onnoghen to speak to the press on the issue, confirmed this to our correspondent.
