FG approves ₦100bn for completion of East-West road

The federal government has approved N100 billion for the completion of Sections 1 to 4 of the East-West road project.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani made the disclosure in Abuja at a meeting with the Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas (HOSTCOM), led by its National Chairman, Chief Style Benjamin Tamaranebi.

Boko Haram attacks Damaturu

Boko Haram on Tuesday evening launched a daring attack on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

The attack forced the town into a lockdown as vehicles were not allowed in or out of the town.

Many of the residents were forced to stay in door as the military engaged the insurgents, who were said to have tried to gain entry into the town through Maisandari, on the outskirts of the town.

Authorities of the Lagos State University (LASU) have said that there is no ambiguity in the date of birth or the retirement status of its academic member and former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola.

Armed robbers attack bank, kill seven in Ondo

Tragedy struck yesterday in Idoani, the headquarters of Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, as armed robbers attacked a first generation bank, killing seven persons and carting away an undisclosed amount of money. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised questions over Federal Government’s “unwholesome” borrowings amounting to N24.38 trillion debts as the end of last year.

Debt Management Office (DMO) Director-General Ms. Patience Oniha said last week that the figure comprised of debts owed by the federal and states governments as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

She explained that the figure was N2.66 trillion higher than the N21.7 trillion recorded as at December 31, 2017, and represents a year-on-year growth of 12.25 per cent.

Bandits kill 20 in Kaduna

Twenty persons have been reported killed in a fresh attack by unknown gunmen in Angwan Aku community,  Kajuru Local Government Area,  Kaduna State.

A resident said the attack was launched at about 7am on Monday by gunmen, allegedly dressed in military uniform and armed with AK47 rifles, machetes and sticks.

They stormed the village, shooting sporadically, he said.

The death toll of Nigerians killed in South Africa has continued to rise with another two being the latest victims in ongoing xenophobic attacks on foreigners in that country.

It was learnt that the latest victims – Bonny Iwuoha and Goziem Akpenyi – were stabbed to death during xenophobic attacks in Johannesburg and Cape Town on April 5 and April 6.

The Akure Division of the Court of Appeal Saturday affirmed the qualification and eligibility of Osun State’s governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, to seek election as governor.

The 112 Chibok girls still being held by Boko Haram will   have spent five years in captivity if they are not released by next Sunday.

Over 200 students of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State were abducted by the terrorists on the night of April 14, 2014.
