‘Atiku is destined to be president of Nigeria’

A traditional medicine practitioner in Anambra State, Igwe Onyeachonam Ofomba, has predicted that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has been destined to become Nigeria’s President this year.

He said by divine arrangement, Atiku would emerge victorious at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, insisting that if the tribunal does not declare Atiku winner, he will resign his traditional medicine practice.

Ofomba made the declaration at this year’s celebration of the Onwa Nge Festival in Nando Community, Anambra East Local Government Area.

Trump forgets own gift to Queen

Trump forgets own gift to Queen

The US President’s memory lapse regarding a gift he’d presented wasn’t the first, as in December his eldest son Donald Trump Jr. confessed that his father was known to be something of a “regifter”.

In a saving face moment, first lady Melania Trump appeared to come to her husband President Donald Trump’s rescue during their UK state visit on Monday when he seemingly failed to recognise a pewter horse statue he had previously given as a gift to Queen Elizabeth II, writes the Guardian.

Prosecutor requests jail term for Bouteflika-era tycoon

An Algerian prosecutor requested Monday that a business tycoon linked to ousted leader Abdelaziz Bouteflika be sentenced to 18 months in prison for “forgery”, according to an AFP correspondent.

Ali Haddad, who owns Algeria’s largest private construction company, has been detained since his arrest on March 31 while trying to cross into Tunisia, days before Bouteflika stepped down in the face of country-wide protests.

He was carrying two passports — which is forbidden under Algerian law — and is also accused of carrying undeclared foreign currency.

“This is a political trial, the charge of fraud has no (legal) basis,” Haddad’s …

Governor Emeka Ihedioha in the eye of the storm

By Ejimkeonye Caesar Munachiso

I have never been a fan of former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State due to gubernatorial flamboyance and his trivialization of governance through constant exhibition of acts of superlative “iberiberism.”

The ‘do or die’ disposition with which he tried to perpetuate himself in office through his son-inlaw easily attest to the mess he made of Imo State and the need to cover it up by hook or by crook.
Thus anyone, especially those who rejected him and voted for Emeka Ihedioha would naturally expect a Hercules in Ihedioha, for the Augean stable needs thorough cleaning. …

China set to hit back at US with rare earths

China set to hit back at US with rare earths

President Xi Jinping’s visit to a rare earths plant last week had sparked speculation that China would use its dominant position as an exporter of rare earths to the United States as leverage in the trade war.

Rare earths are a group of 17 chemical elements used in everything from high-tech consumer electronics to military equipment. The prospect that their value could soar as a result of the trade war caused sharp increases in the share prices of producers, including the company visited by Xi.

While China has so far not explicitly said it would restrict rare earths sales to …
