United Nations: Nigeria Still Owing Annual Contribution

Nigeria is among countries owing its annual dues to the cash strapped United Nations (UN), despite occupying the Deputy Secretary-General position. 

Two Nigerians are among the organisation’s most high-ranking officials including UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed and the current president of the UN General Assembly, Tijjani Bande whose yearlong tenure runs till September 2020.

Nigeria Working To Adopt Visa-On-Arrival Policy – Onyeama

Nigeria and the Republic of Namibia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas that will be beneficial to both countries in particular and the African continent.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement by his Special Assistant, Media, Ms. Sarah Sanda.

Onyeama said that the agreement was reached at a meeting in Windhoek with Namibian Ministers led by the country’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mrs. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

80% Of Health Facilities In Niger State Are Non-Functional

Despite the national drive for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), which ensures access to affordable and quality health care, over 80 percent of Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities are non-functional in Niger State, the government disclosed recently.

The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Health, Mr. Makusidi Mohamad, speaking at a two-day retreat on PHC in Abuja, said the state has over 1,400 PHC facilities in the state, but that only less than 20 percent are functional.

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cross-listing and trading of green bonds in Nigeria and Luxembourg.

The MoU was signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NSE, Mr. Oscar Onyema and CEO of LuxSE, Mr. Robert Scharfe, during the annual meeting of the World Federation of Exchanges in Singapore yesterday.

NSE said in a statement that the MoU further established an agreement for the two exchanges to collaborate with a view to sharing best practises and organising joint initiatives in their respective markets.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has expressed concerns about the rate at which oil major pipelines are sabotaged in Nigeria, stating that it rose by 115 percent in July 2019.

NNPC Acting Group General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Samson Makoji, quoting from July 2019 Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR) of the oil corporation, said 228 points were broken on the country’s pipelines in the month under review.

EFCC Releases List Of 18 Fraudsters Busted In Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal Office, has arrested 18 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos.

The suspects are Abass Mukhtar, Enitan Adekunle, Olakunle Araoyinbo, Korede Adetule, Christmas Gabriel, Christmas Yole, Christmas Emmanuel and Harrison Obayogbono.

Others are Victor Kenneth, Adewale Musibau, Oluwajuwon Shofuyi, Idris Abdulazeez, Oyeku Adeoye, Omilana Adeleke, Okeke Chucks, Peters Olamide, Abayomi Jones and Usman Olalekan.

The suspects were arrested at three different locations in the Alagbado area of Lagos State, following intelligence reports received by the Commission from concerned members of the public about their alleged involvement in criminal activities.
