Facebook Will Allow UK Election Candidates To Run False Ads

London and New York (CNN Business)A controversial policy allowing politicians to run false ads on Facebook will extend to the United Kingdom as the country prepares to vote in a historic December election, Facebook confirmed to CNN Business.

The policy is being championed by Facebook executive Nick Clegg, the former deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom who himself once complained about “lies” spread during the 2016 Brexit referendum.
The company will not fact-check ads run by British political parties and the thousands of candidates running for election to the House of Commons. Ads from other political groups, like

Senate Confirms Tsoho As Chief Judge Of Federal High Court

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Justice John Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

The confirmation followed a report submitted by Sen. Michael Bamidele, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters which recommended the confirmation of Tsoho’s appointment.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the Senate at Plenary on  Oct. 29 deliberated on President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for the confirmation of the nomination of Tsoho for appointment as Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

The appellate court dismissed the appeal brought before it by Senator Ahmed Mohammed Maccido of the People’s Democratic Party  (PDP).

Appeal Court Reserves Judgment On Kaduna Guber Election

The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna, yesterday, reserved judgment for November  7, on the appeal filled by Alhaji Isah Ashiru, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the March 9  election.

Ashiru and the PDP had approached the Appeal Court to challenge the verdict of the Kaduna State Governorship Tribunal that upheld the return of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as duly elected by majority and lawful votes.

The Justice Ibrahim Bako-led Tribunal had dismissed the petition of the PDP and its candidate for lacking in merit.

Boris Johnson told “so many lies” during the EU referendum campaign, the outgoing president of the European commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has said.

About 3,000 people in Dombe, Central Mozambique, are dealing with extreme food shortages after crops were ruined by Cyclone Idai in March.

Local official, Tomas Razao said that some people were surviving on wild roots and seasonal fruits.

The cyclone followed a period of drought, which created tough weather conditions for crops to grow in.
