INEC, Political Parties Sign Peace Accord

History was made yesterday in Yenagoa, when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all the 45 political parties that nominated candidates for next weekend’s Bayelsa election, signed a peace accord.

To All Progressives Congress(APC) in Kebbi State, the October 26,2019 Local Government election was a testing ground for the 2023 general election. It was an avenue where different caucuses within the party showcased their political strength and popularity.

Court Of Appeal Affirms Okorocha’s Victory

A Court of Appeal Court sitting in Owerri on Thursday upheld the election of Owelle Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as senator representing Imo West Senatorial District.

The Chairman of the panel, Justice R.A. Ada, said that the appeals by Senators Osita Izunaso of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Jones Onyereri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against Okorocha lacked merit.

Ada however, reaffirmed the judgement of the State and National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which upheld Okorocha’s election, adding that it was in order.

Sudan’s protest movement Thursday agreed to form the country’s new parliament only after a peace deal is reached with rebel groups for ending long-running conflicts in three border regions.

The 300-member parliament was to be formed within three months of a power-sharing deal that was signed on August 17 between protest leaders and the generals who had seized power after the April overthrow of longtime president Omar al-Bashir.

Mr Heineken Lokpobiri, one of the aspirants who took part in the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa has urged electorate to vote for the party in the Nov. 16 election.

Lokpobiri, a former Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, said this on Thursday when he paid a courtesy visit on APC National Chairman, Adam Oshiomhole, in Abuja.

US-Led Coalition Launches Operation To Protect Gulf Waters

US launched operations in Bahrain on Thursday to protect shipping in the troubled waters of the Gulf, following a string of attacks that Washington and its allies blamed on Iran.

The coalition, aimed at warding off the perceived threat to the world’s oil supply, has been in the making since June.

Iran, which has denied any responsibility for the mystery attacks, has put forward its own proposals for boosting Gulf security that pointedly exclude outside powers.

‘No Alternative’: Rainsy Determined To Return To Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Opposition leader Sam Rainsy says he is committed to return to the Southeast Asian nation from self-imposed exile on Saturday, despite government attempts to stop him.

Party officials and human rights organisations estimate more than 40 opposition supporters have been arrested since Rainsy announced in August his plan to return, while Prime Minister Hun Sen has said he will deploy thousands of troops at the border to prevent Rainsy crossing into Cambodia from Thailand.

Reps Moves To Stop Post UTME/JAMB Screening

Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Wednesday during its plenary resolved to urge higher institutions in Nigeria to stop the post UTME/JAMB screening.
The lawmakers said it will also mandate its committee on Tertiary Education and Services to call for a joint meeting of the Federal Ministry of Education, JAMB and National Universities Commission to develop a unified template.

The post UTME, always paid for, has been made compulsory by various tertiary institutions for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

Abdulrasheed Maina, Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team (PRTM), was, on Thursday, wheeled into Court 6, Federal High Court, Abuja, where his bail application is expected to be taken.

Maina, who was dressed in light green colour caftan, was in a wheel chair.

The former chairman of PRTM was looking pensive and sickly.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN) has disagreed with an elder statesman and constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN) on the way the Supreme Court handled the presidential election petition filed by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement issued wednesday, Keyamo said that the respected lawyer could not reasonably fault the action of the Supreme Court since it was guided by the constitution.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare, wednesday said President Muhammadu Buhari did not relegate Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo by travelling without transmitting a letter to the National Assembly to empower the vice president to act in his absence.

Omoworare stated this while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
