Protesters Besiege INEC Headquarters

Hundreds of protesters yesterday barricaded the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja to demand for free, fair and credible governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states. The protesters, led by Adebayo Raphael, the convener of Free Nigeria Movement, accused the Commission of conducting the 2019 general elections below the minimum standard.

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has described allegation that the state-owned International Cargo Airport built by his administration was flooded as a deliberate lie by the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

Sanwo-Olu Presents ₦1.168trn 2020 Budget

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday presented a budget of ₦1.168 trillion to the Lagos State House of Assembly for approval for the 2020 fiscal year. The budget is higher than the 2019 appropriation bill by 34 per cent.

According to the Governor, Capital Expenditure amounts to ₦723.75 billion while Recurrent Expenditure is ₦444.81 billion, giving a capital to recurrent ratio 62:38 percent.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the proposed budget will be funded by a projected revenue inlay of ₦1.071 trillion and a deficit amounting to N97.53 billion.

Amidst sporadic shootings, Lagos state government began demolition of the multimillion Ketu – Ikosi Fruit Market in Lagos Friday morning.

Hundreds of wailing market women claimed that they were not informed about the exercise.

The traders were not allowed to pack their goods as the bulldozers commenced the demolition of the market.

No fewer than 20 persons were Thursday burnt to death in a fatal road accident along Ife-Ibadan Expressway in Osun.
