Kanu Blasts Media For Portraying Referendum As Call For War

The leader of Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said that the Nigeria Media portrays any call for referendum as a call for war.

The IPOB leader made this known on Twitter. He said:

As Ethiopia conducts Referendum in its Sidama region, one is reminded of a similar referendum through which Adamawa became part of Nigeria. Today any demand for referendum is deemed call for war. Why? It’s because Nigeria media portrays it as such just to please the ruling Cabal.

Sowore Sues DSS, Demands ‎₦500m For Human Rights Violation

Sahara Reporters publisher and convener of the RevolutionNow protests Omoyele Sowore has sued the Department of State Services (DSS) over the violation of his fundamental human right.
“An order of this court compelling the respondents to pay to the applicant the sum of ₦500,000, 000, 00 (Five hundred million naira) as general and aggravated damages for the illegal violation of the applicant’s fundamental right to life, dignity of his person, fair hearing, health, freedom of movement and freedom of association,” Sowore’s lawyer Femi Falana said in the suit marked FHC/ABJ /C51409/2019 dated November 20, 2019.

Nigerians To Pay More Tax As Senate Approves 7.5% VAT Hike

The  Nigerian Senate on Thursday passed the Finance Bill which seeks to amend seven acts of the National Assembly related to taxes payable in the country.

The bill titled ‘Nigeria Tax And Fiscal Law (Amendment) Bill (Finance Bill) 2019’, sought the increment of the Value Added Tax (VAT) payable by Nigerians from 5 percent to 7.5 percent. Other amended Tax Acts as contained in the finance bill include: Company Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, Custom and Excise Tax, Stamp Duties Act and the Capital Gains Tax.

To improve the ongoing reform in the country’s judicial sector, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved what it called as a Justice Sector Policy for Nigeria.The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made the disclosure yesterday while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.He explained that the policy would ensure speedy administration of justice, quality administration and access to justice.

Europe’s Prisons Failing To Monitor Inmates’ Health: WHO

Prison authorities in Europe are not doing enough to monitor the health of inmates, meaning prisoners are more likely to suffer untreated conditions and are released without adequate support, the World Health Organization said Thursday.

The UN body warned that such failings will come at a “high cost” for society at large as they add to the public health burden.

The WHO collected the data of 39 European countries between 2016 and 2017 and recommended that prisons test for tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases, mental health problems and addictions.
