Makinde Proposes ₦208.8bn Budget

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday presented an appropriation bill of ₦208, 802,972,878 to the state House of Assembly for the 2020 fiscal year.

Capital expenditure made up 47.9 per cent of the total budget estimate, while the total recurrent expenditure for the 2020 financial year stood at N108, 660, 282,832, representing 52.1 per cent of the budget proposal.

Makinde said the importance of the 20 per cent “increase on the 2019 budget should not be lost on us.”

47 Alleged Homosexuals Arraigned, Get ₦500,000 Bail

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Rilwan Aikawa on one count of “engaging in amorous gay, homosexuals  relationship” contrary to Section 5(2) of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013.

The defendants include Segun Ode, 24; Afolabi David, 20; Azeez Tunde, 22; Adedokun Pelumi, 22; Smart Joel ; 25, Iyodun Ehiosun, 20; Rilwan Jamiu, 24; and Raphael Matthew ,38.

Without Constitutional Backing, Card Reader Now Useless

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wednesday described the non-recognition of the smart card reader by the 1999 Constitution(as amended), as a great setback for the commission’s efforts to tackle poll fraud, using technology.

According to the commission, the lack of legal backing for the smart card reader has rendered the device legally impotent and has further encouraged politicians not to accord any importance to it.

This came just as the civil society Situation Room has accused the electoral body of not being firm in enforcing rules.

German Museum Confirms 49-Carat Diamond Among Heist Haul

A 49-carat diamond which analysts estimate to be worth up to $12 million was among over a dozen jewel-encrusted items snatched from a German state museum in a spectacular heist, the museum confirmed Wednesday.

Publishing a list of the pieces taken in Monday’s brazen raid, the Green Vault museum at Dresden’s royal palace said the items stolen included a sword whose hilt is encrusted with nine large and 770 smaller diamonds, and a shoulderpiece which contains the famous 49-carat Dresden white diamond.

NDDC: A Dangerous Action Buhari Must Stop

Nigeria is gripped in a macabre dance in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) where an ‘interim management committee’ is running the agency when the nominees for the board have been screened and confirmed for over two weeks now. Cooking Gas: Association Decries Price Hike

Mr. Dubem Muomandu, Chairman, Nigeria Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), Anambra chapter, has decried the hike in prices of cooking gas in the state.

Muomandu made the observation with newsmen in Awka on Tuesday. He also advised its members to take Public Liability Insurance cover to reduce risks in the event of accidents.

According to him, the increase in prices is more noticeably in the lower capacity cylinders of 3kg and 6kg used largely by the masses.
