CBN, Banks Introduce New Measure to Boost Finances

As part of efforts to enhance financial inclusion in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and banks, under the aegis of the Bankers’ Committee, have concluded plans to simplify the requirements for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) for certain types of transactions.

CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, disclosed this yesterday, while briefing journalists at the end of a two-day annual Bankers’ Committee retreat at Ogere, Ogun State.

Verdict In Al-Bashir’s Corruption Trial Expected Saturday

A verdict in the corruption trial of Sudan’s ousted president Omar al-Bashir is expected to be delivered on Saturday.

The court in the capital of Khartoum heard final testimonies in the case on Nov. 16, including that of the government’s auditor.

US Congress Recognizes Armenian Genocide

The US Congress on Thursday formally recognized the 1915-1917 murder of up to 1.5 million Armenians as genocide.

The Senate’s passage of the repeatedly stalled resolution is expected to anger Turkey, which denies there was a genocidal mass murder, insisting the Armenians died as a result of World War I.

Chile Says No Hope Of Survivors From Missing Plane

Chile confirmed Thursday that a military plane with 38 people aboard crashed in the sea, with no hope of finding survivors.

“The condition of the plane wreckage that was found makes it practically impossible that there are survivors from this air accident,” Air Force chief Arturo Merino told a news conference in the southern port of Punta Arenas.
