Ohanaeze Calls For Imprisonment Of ‘Corrupt Untouchables’

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) on Friday lamented the latest ranking of Nigeria in the corruption index by Transparency International (TI).

Nigeria was ranked 146 out of 180 Countries on the 2019 Corruption Perception Index, dropping two places in one year.

The Ohanaeze Youth Council in a statement signed by its president, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to jail persons whose actions have given Nigeria a bad image.

It called for a review of the fight against corruption and imprisonment of the “untouchables and overrated sacred cows whose pending cases had lasted more than a decade in various courts

Amotekun: Ohanaeze Lauds FG, S’West Govs On Resolution

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has lauded governors of the Southwest geopolitical zone for their firmness on Amotekun.

Amotekun, an initiative of Southwest Governors, was first declared illegal last Tuesday by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The grandson of the Second Republic President Shehu Shagari, Bello Shagari, has warned Nigerians calling for the breakup of the country.

Bello on Friday said anyone calling for Nigeria’s breakup is unfair to the people who lost their lives during the civil war that lasted from July 6th, 1967 to January 15th, 1970.

El-Rufai Reveals Amount Govt Spent On Power Without Result

The Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that the Federal Government has spent a whooping sum of ₦1.7trillion on power in the last three years without much progress.

El-Rufai made the disclosure while briefing journalists on the outcome of the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting presided over by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.

He described the power situation in the country as a national emergency that requires all hands on deck to interrogate why the sector was not working to the benefit of Nigerians.

The Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the Southwest Governors, Rotimi Akeredolu, has disclosed what was agreed upon during the meeting with the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo with regards to Amotekun.

Oshiomhole’s Removal: Court Makes Decision

A Federal Capital Territory, FCT High Court, in Jabi, on Thursday declined the Ex-Parte Application filed by the National Vice Chairman, North East of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Comrade Mustapha Salihu, a factional Chairman of the APC in Edo state, Anselm Ojezua and others, seeking to remove the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole from office.

Lukman, had told Oshiomhole to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party or resign without further ado.

Lukman’s call came on the heels of the multiple internal crisis rocking the party in states across the country.

FG, South-West Governors Agree To Formalise Amotekun

The Federal Government and Governors of states in the South-west have reached the agreement to draw up a legal framework for the Western Security Network code-named: Amotekun.

Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, disclosed this to state house correspondents at the end of a meeting Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had with the six governors from the region on Thursday.

Akeredolu said the legal framework will help resolve all “burning issues” surrounding the security network.

S’East Govs Not Doing Enough For Igbos – Pete Edochie

Veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Pete Edochie, has asked South East Governors to fashion out modalities to rescue the culture and tradition of Igbo through motion pictures.

Edochie, who bemoaned the neglect of Igbo culture and language, especially the youths, said the governors were yet to show enough commitment towards ensuring that Igbo culture is sustained.

He stressed that the preservation and promotion of Igbo culture was sacrosanct.

Enugu Council Polls: APC Releases List Of Candidates

Ahead of the February 29 Local Government Election in Enugu State, members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, loyal to foreign affairs minister, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama have released a list of the party’s candidates.

The list made available to THISDAY on Thursday, contained names of chairmanship and councilorship candidates.

Boko Haram: Christian Leadership In Nigeria Queries Buhari
