Borno Gov Swears In 26 Advisers

Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum has sworn in 26 special advisers including two non-natives from the southwest and southeast parts of the country.

Zulum at a brief ceremony at the Maiduguri Government House on Wednesday said their appointments were based on their contributions to the state in their various endeavours and success of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last elections.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Umar Kadafur, urged them to show more dedication to their duties to justify the confidence repose on them.

A coalition of extractive sector non-governmental organisations have called for adoption of legal reforms which foster transparency as a long lasting panacea to rampant violence in the artisanal and small scale mining.

In press statement released by the Publish What You Pay (Zimbabwe), the civic groups called on government to embrace transparency reforms, saying the opaque nature of mining operations and governance are part of the root cause of Machete violence.

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, disclosed that a new Board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) would be constituted and sent to the National Assembly for confirmation.

In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, dated December 23, Buhari said the earlier confirmed board would be put on hold to allow the Interim Management Team (IMT) carry out a forensic audit of the NDDC.

Local Government Chairmen who were sacked by Governor Seyi Makinde last year, on Tuesday declared that the court injunction obtained by the Oyo State government cannot stop them from resuming their various offices.

DAILY POST recalls that an Oyo State High Court, on Tuesday, restrained the sacked chairmen from forceful take over of secretariats in the state.
